LANI SILK was founded in 2020 in Boulder, Colorado. We specialize in mulberry silk sleepwear: pajamas, nightgowns, robes, and accessories. Each piece is crafted from 19–25 momme silk, designed for women who value natural materials and restful sleep.

Who Founded LANI SILK and Why?

LANI SILK began in 2020 when a simple observation became a mission. The gap was clear: quality mulberry silk sleepwear existed at department store prices—or it didn't exist at all. Most options were polyester satin labeled as "silk-feel," or genuine silk priced beyond reach.

We started by sourcing fabric samples from multiple suppliers across different regions. The goal was specific: find 6A grade mulberry silk with consistent quality, appropriate momme weight for sleepwear, and reliable supply. After testing various momme weights for durability and comfort, we settled on the 19–25 momme range. This weight provides enough density for lasting quality without sacrificing the fluid drape that makes silk feel like silk.

What Makes LANI SILK Different from Other Silk Brands?

LANI SILK uses supplier-graded 6A mulberry silk woven at 19–25 momme. This means something specific.

Momme weight measures silk density. One momme equals one pound of silk in a piece measuring 45 inches by 100 yards (114 cm by 91 m). Higher momme indicates thicker, more durable fabric. Our pajama sets use 22–25 momme. Our scrunchies and lightweight accessories use 19–22 momme.

6A grade is an industry term for silk with minimal defects and consistent fiber quality. It describes fiber length, uniformity, and defect rate—not a certification. Supplier grading varies, but we work with suppliers who maintain consistent standards across batches.

Charmeuse weave gives our silk its signature finish: smooth and lustrous on one side, softer matte texture on the reverse. This weave creates the fluid drape you feel against your skin.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification tests finished textiles for harmful substances. Our products carry this certification. One note: OEKO-TEX addresses chemical safety in the finished product. It doesn't certify every part of the supply chain.

Many brands use lower momme weights or silk blends. Specifications vary widely across the market. We list ours clearly on each product page.

How Is LANI SILK Sleepwear Made?

Each LANI SILK piece goes through quality inspection from fabric selection to final packaging.

Fabric Selection. We receive silk in bolts and inspect for color consistency, weave uniformity, and surface defects. Bolts that don't meet standards are returned.

Cutting and Pattern Matching. Fabric is cut using patterns designed for fluid movement and minimal waste. Pattern pieces are matched for color consistency across the garment.

Sewing and Finishing. We use French seams throughout—fabric edges are enclosed within the seam, preventing fraying and adding durability. Buttons are natural shell. Elastic is encased in silk.

Final Inspection. Before packaging, each piece is checked for seam strength, color accuracy, size specifications, and fabric defects. Items that don't pass are set aside.

Is LANI SILK Ethical and Sustainable?

LANI SILK holds OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, which tests for harmful chemicals in finished textiles. This means our products have been tested and verified safe against a list of regulated and unregulated substances.

We need to be direct about what we control and what we don't.

What we verify: Our finished products meet chemical safety standards. We work with the same suppliers consistently, maintaining relationships that allow for quality oversight. Our packaging uses recycled materials where possible.

What we're still improving: Silk production involves multiple steps before fabric reaches us—sericulture, reeling, weaving. We don't control every upstream process. We're working toward greater supply chain visibility, but we're not there yet.

Durability as sustainability: Mulberry silk, with proper care, lasts years. We design for longevity—French seams, reinforced stress points, quality hardware. A silk piece you wear for five years has different environmental impact than synthetic sleepwear replaced annually.
